This is an opportunity do some shooting in a photo rich environment and to put into practice some of the things that you may have learned in our recent workshop. Wednesday, March 7 - Aero photography - Jim Raeder. Member Jim Raeder is a pilot and a photographer. He has shared some impressive images with us during past club meetings and will be discussing his photography and techniques that he has developed in order to capture his exceptional images.
Wednesday, March 14 - Flash Workshop. This will be a hands on workshop for learning more about flash photography. Bring your camera and flash and we will have some fun.
Saturday, March 17 - Black Magic Canyon. This unusual canyon north of Shoshone was carved over thousands of years by the Big Wood River, leaving twisting, almost supernatural lava rock sculptures behind. It offers some unique rock formations. It is located about 18 miles north of Shoshone on Idaho Highway 75. We will carpool from the Costco Parking lot on Cole Road. Departure time is 9:30 am. Saturday, March 24 - On Location Flash Photo Shoot. 1:00 pm Reid Merrill Park, Eagle. This will be an extension of our classroom workshop on flash photography. We will meet at Reid Merrill Park in Eagle and use the park as a setting for shooting environmental portraits. This will be focused on how to use flash to enhance your environmental portraits and put into practice what we learned in the classroom: Allen Baxter

The Quarterly Critique/Display theme is Cityscape/Geometric/Architecture and our Routine Monthly theme is Monochrome. So if you have any images you would like to display in these categories please bring them; otherwise, bring other images.
Similar to our previous session like this we will have two separate sessions: 1) offer members the opportunity to have images of their selection critiqued by a panel and 2) general image display
Critique – bring up to 5 images of your selection to have critiqued by a panel.
Display – bring up to 15 images for display.
Please separate your images into separate folders on your memory stick: Critique and Display so that when we load them onto the laptop we can separate them.
Please resize your images per he below:
• 1920 pixels long edge (the short edge dimension is unimportant)
• JPG at 100% quality
• sRGB color space
• 72 ppi (this doesn't really matter, but Lightroom and some other software requires a number, so use this)
- Resizing images to the above parameters will automatically keep the file size well within range for quick viewing. If you are not sure how to do this we will do it for you.
June 20th Meeting - Photo Walk.
The church is not available this week and we will have a photo walk to practice our photography.

July 18th Meeting - Western Idaho Fair Photo Contest - Pre Judging .
If you are contemplating entering the Western Idaho Fair Photography Contest then our Wednesday, July 18th meeting will be of particular interest. It is not too early to start getting prepared. We will be critiquing your potential entries to help you get prepared. Bring either prints or digital images to be critiqued. Bring several images if you are not sure which one to submit. Our goal of this session is to help you get the best possible results in the photo contest.
Paul Pulley, the WIF Photography Superintendent will be on hand to help with the critique process. Club members have enjoyed considerable success in this contest so this meeting is a great opportunity to get some help with your preparation.
In past years the category of B&W has had very few images submitted at the fair so if you have some good B&W images consider submitting in the appropriate Monochrome classes.

August 1st Meeting - Luminosity Masks - Allen Baxter.
- We will also answer questions about submitting images for the Western Idaho Fair so if you are still looking for input on images bring your images and question.
Some advantages of luminosity masking:
- Using this technique allows you to overcome the difficult task of selecting specific areas for adjustment using the traditional selection tools.
- Since it is based on tone it is self feathering.
- Luminosity mask allow total artistic control of the light that was captured.
- Can be used on any type of image: Landscape, portrait, color, B&W.
August 22nd - 7:30 pm Photo Walk at the Western Idaho Fair
Rather than having our regular August 15th meeting we will have a photo walk at the Western Idaho Fair. You will be responsible for your own fair admission. Adult = $7.00, Senior $5.00. We will meet at 7:30 pm just inside the Main Gate (item 21 on the attached Fairgrounds Map). The midway with all the rides and lights is a great place to explore night photography.
Wednesday, August 29th Meeting - Member Image Slide Show.
Although it is not one of our routine meeting dates we will have a special meeting this Wednesday, August 29th 7:00 – 9:00 dedicated to displaying member images. So bring up to 10 images on a memory stick for display and discussion.
Our specs for the images for the slide show are as follows:

Saturday, September 8th - Leslie Gulch - Allen Baxter
Leslie Gulch is a canyon in Malheur County, Oregon, United States. It is on the east side of Owyhee Lake, a reservoir on the Owyhee River. Its abundant and striking rock formations are made of tuff. The club shot the milkyway at this location earlier this year. Sample images

Normally the Pen does not allow tripods and or external flash to be used. I have reserved the facility from 9:00 – 12:00 just for us and they will allow us to use our tripods and flash. Saturday, 10/6 World Center for Birds of Prey Fall Flights 2:00 pm:
Please arrive early especially if you have questions about camera settings. This event is open to the public and is popular and can get crowded so Please arrive NO LATER THAN 2:30 for seating, but be aware that we may sell out before that time, especially on Saturdays.
Admission: $10 adults, $8 seniors, $5 youth 4-16, free to members and children 3 and younger.
An annual membership is $25.00 and provides unlimited access and is good for 12 months from date of purchase so consider getting an annual membership if you think you will go more than once. Are you interested in improving your photography? Well having your images critiqued is an important step in your photographic growth process. We will have a structured paneled critique for this session. Images to be critiqued will have to be submitted at least one week prior to the meeting.

Wednesday, November 7th 7:00 pm:
- Regular Meeting - Topic: Exposure - everything you wanted to know about getting the perfect exposure for your images. This will be part lecture and hands-on workshop so please bring your camera/lens. We will discuss the topic and then practice.
- Nomination of Officers for 2019 - annually we nominated officers and then we vote on the next business meeting.
Wednesday, November 14th 7:00 pm: Photo Walk downtown Boise
Photo Walk downtown Boise - weather permitting we will meet out in front of the Jump Building located at: 851 W Front St, Boise, ID 83702. There are several parking facilities close to the Jump bldg. The Jump building and surrounding area provide a great environment for night photography. Bring your tripod. We will put into practice some of the things that we learned in the previous Wednesday's meeting on Exposure. Link to Map
Wednesday, November 21st 7:00 pm: Post Processing Question/Answer
Since this meeting is just before the Thanksgiving Holiday and many may be traveling this session will be an informal session dedicated to post processing questions and answers. Bring your laptop.

Wednesday, December 19th 7:00 pm:
Christmas Party & Equipment Swap - we will hold the party at Meridian Friends Church in our regular meeting room and will combine the dinner with our annual equipment swap. So bring the equipment you no longer use to swap with other members. In the past we have had some great equipment bought/sold.
The club will supply drinks and the main dish for the meal. Members are asked to bring the following to share:
